Expanding Access: Dental Care at CUHCC
We partnered with the University of Minnesota to deliver a thoughtful renovation of the Community-University Healthcare Center (CUHCC) Dental Clinic—an essential health resource located in the heart of Minneapolis’ underserved Phillips neighborhood. The renovation responds to increased demand for culturally sensitive, accessible dental care for a largely immigrant population, many of whom face language and mobility barriers.
To meet CUHCC’s growing needs, Mohagen Hansen reimagined existing clinical spaces to maximize functionality, accessibility, and care delivery. A former lab area was transformed into a dedicated pediatric suite equipped with new operatory technology including a dental chair, nitrous hookups, a pediatric x-ray unit, and custom cabinetry. The plan also relocated the panoramic imaging room, reoriented a clinic entry point to improve ADA access, and expanded the sterile processing room to meet modern efficiency and infection control standards. A dual-bay treatment room was introduced, featuring a demountable partition system that improves patient privacy while allowing providers flexible configurations. This renovation supports CUHCC’s mission of providing high-quality, equitable healthcare within a trusted, community-centered environment.
