Expanding Spaces, Enriching Minds
As Parnassus Preparatory School flourished, so did its need for a campus that could keep pace with its growing student body. Since opening in 2011 with just 360 students, enrollment has nearly tripled to 1,000, reflecting the remarkable rise of charter schools across Minnesota. To support this expansion, Mohagen Hansen Architecture | Interiors was entrusted with designing an addition that would not only accommodate more students but also enhance the overall learning experience.
The transformative expansion introduced 24 new classrooms, a state-of-the-art gymnasium, and a grand auditorium—each space thoughtfully designed to support academic, physical, and community engagement. The addition of the auditorium created a dedicated venue for school-wide assemblies, performances, and events, fostering a deeper sense of unity among students and staff. The gymnasium expansion strengthened the physical education program, encouraging wellness and active learning beyond the classroom.
Beyond functionality, the design team seamlessly integrated branding strategies that reflect the school’s identity and mission, reinforcing a sense of belonging and pride.
