Designing a Hybrid Workforce: Hennepin County Health Services Renovation
As the workplace continues to evolve, we partnered with Hennepin County to reimagine how public sector employees work, collaborate, and stay connected. This multi-floor renovation within the County Health Services Building in downtown Minneapolis reflects a forward-thinking response to the changing dynamics of hybrid work, space efficiency, and employee well-being.
Mohagen Hansen led a full-service design team to remodel the 8th floor, previously occupied in the Grain Exchange Building, and expand into the 9th and 10th floors to support the Adult Representation Services department. The solution balances flexibility and functionality with a layout that accommodates hybrid schedules and encourages productivity. A range of workspace types—including open-plan seating, glass-lined focus rooms, huddle spaces, and tech-enabled conference rooms—offer staff the freedom to choose how and where they work. The design maximizes natural light by positioning workstations along the perimeter, while creating quiet zones in the building’s core. This modernized environment supports both collaborative and individual work and has already contributed to improved staff morale and retention.
