Open Minds, Open Space: Reimagining the Modern Library Experience
The renovation of the Hennepin County Franklin Library focused on enhancing the functionality and accessibility of this historic community resource, while preserving its architectural character. The scope of work included reconfiguring the interior layout to improve sightlines, increase seating capacity, and support a variety of user needs through flexible furniture solutions. Updated finishes, fixtures, and lighting were selected to create a bright, welcoming environment that complements the building’s original design elements. ADA upgrades were integrated throughout the facility to ensure full accessibility for all patrons. The design concept prioritized both preservation and modernization, resulting in a refreshed space that continues to serve as a vital hub for learning, connection, and community engagement. Close collaboration with Hennepin County and project stakeholders ensured the renovation respected the library’s historical significance while meeting the demands of a modern public facility.
