Healing Spaces: Behavioral Health & Wellness Clinic
Mohagen Hansen was selected by Hennepin County to lead the programming, space planning, and design of a first-of-its-kind behavioral health triage clinic in Minneapolis. Located at 1800 Chicago Avenue, this essential facility provides immediate assessment and triage services for individuals experiencing mental health or substance use challenges—offering a critical alternative to hospital emergency rooms while ensuring access to appropriate care.
Designed to improve care coordination and reduce unnecessary ER visits, the clinic serves as a vital link between law enforcement, medical professionals, and community-based social services. Individuals who walk in or are brought in by law enforcement receive professional assessments that guide them toward the appropriate level of care, whether that be the Withdrawal Management Program, the Mental Health Crisis Stabilization Program, community-based services, or a hospital setting. The 13,000 USF clinic occupies the first floor of the existing building, sharing an entrance with related behavioral health services to create a seamless continuum of care. The thoughtfully designed space includes assessment and procedure rooms, a spacious and calming waiting area, and well-equipped staff support spaces, ensuring both patient comfort and operational efficiency.
By integrating a multidisciplinary approach to behavioral health treatment, the clinic offers a compassionate, efficient, and cost-effective alternative to emergency care.
