City of Minnetonka | City Hall Renovation

Minnetonka, MN

A Collaborative and Community-Focused Transformation

Faced with a disjointed layout that hindered communication, blocked natural light, and featured inefficiently sized offices and workstations, the City recognized the need for a comprehensive renovation of their existing city hall. Mohagen Hansen Architecture | Interiors partnered with City leaders to reimagine the space—prioritizing improved staff collaboration, flexible community use, and a welcoming, open environment that reflects the City’s values and vision.

Designing with People and Purpose in Mind

At the heart of the design process was an inclusive and thoughtful engagement strategy. “Ambassadors” from each department were selected to represent their teams, providing feedback, sharing insights, and helping ease the transition through consistent communication. City staff and leadership toured other civic and private-sector spaces to gather inspiration and best practices. The resulting layout features “right-sized” offices and workstations, tech-enabled conference rooms, open collaboration zones, and strategically placed enclaves for focused work or private conversations. Renovated community center rooms were also incorporated into the design—now equipped with flexible furniture layouts that can support a wide range of programs and gatherings.
