When the opportunity came to breathe new life into this architectural gem, Mohagen Hansen Architecture | Interiors embraced the challenge with purpose and care. The vision was to transform a long-standing structure into a vibrant, welcoming community offering high-quality, affordable housing, while preserving the story etched into its walls.
AmberUnion Historic Residences now offers 125 thoughtfully designed units rangingfrom studios to four-bedroom apartments, each flooded with natural light fromexpansive original windows and outfitted with modern appliances and fresh,durable finishes. The design honors the building’s 1940’s era roots by cleaningthe exterior masonry and restoring its beauty while rejuvenating the site withimproved landscaping, EV charging stations, and a more welcoming entry. Inside,art deco details are celebrated throughout the common spaces, where residentsenjoy amenities like a community room with multiple seating options, a gameroom, theater and a climate-controlled skyway connecting residents to theamenity-rich Annex Building.
