Transforming Maternity Care: Allina Unity Hospital Birthing Center
The Allina Unity Hospital Birthing Center in Fridley, MN, underwent a transformative renovation to enhance the birthing experience for expectant mothers and their families. This 14,000-square-foot project, encompassing approximately 29 patient rooms, marks the initial phase of a comprehensive redesign aimed at elevating patient-centered care throughout the facility. Through close collaboration with Allina Health, birthing center staff, and the Minnesota Department of Health, the project achieved a harmonious blend of comfort, functionality, and regulatory compliance.
Mohagen Hansen provided space programming, space planning, interior design, and interior architecture services for this significant renovation. The primary goal was to create a more patient-sensitive environment that caters to the needs of mothers, newborns, and their families. By upgrading finishes and reimagining spatial layouts, the design fosters a soothing atmosphere conducive to healing and bonding. A 3D model of the space was developed to effectively communicate the final design concept to staff, ensuring alignment and understanding across all stakeholders. This project sets the foundation for future enhancements across the entire birthing center, reflecting a commitment to continuous improvement in maternal care.
